ETO’O IMPRESSES

Cameroon coach Volker Finke says that he is delighted with the form shown by Samuel Eto’o, who continues to remain as the main striker for the national team.

The 32-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer on a free transfer from Anzhi Makhachkala. In the last few years, the form of the former Barcelona man has dropped due to playing in a non-competitive league like the Russian league.

Since his return to the Premier league, which is one of the best in the world, he has been playing at a much higher level. Further, the form of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba has allowed Eto’o to feature on a more regular basis.

Finke says that this is good news for the national team, who will be taking part in the World Cup 2014 finals. Eto’o recently scored his first hat-trick for Chelsea in the 3-1 win over Manchester United. Many expected him to struggle in his first year back to a major club, but the 32-year-old has been relatively good after scoring close to 10 goals so far. Finke says that Eto’o alone cannot help the team do well at the World Cup.

However, the presence of at least 10 players of top-level quality can make difference in an entire squad according to him.

“Eto’o is the best player of Cameroon. He can make the difference and I’m very pleased that he has left behind his Russia experience and now I think that at Chelsea he’s coming back to his best level. This why I hope he can make the difference also for us at the World Cup. Football today is about depth, you need a minimum of 10 to 12 individual players of top ability. They have to give to the team. It is no longer a game where just one can make a difference,” said Finke.
