UNDER PRESSURE

The Cameroon national team manager Jean Paul Akono has been under increasing pressure to deliver results for the national team. However, Cameroon suffered yet another embarrassing defeat at the hands of Taifa Stars. After the match, Akono praised the opposition by saying that he expects Taifa Stars to become one of the top nations in Africa in the next few years.

He has said that he is under no doubt that Taifa Stars will be able to qualify for the 2015 African cup of nations. However, his opposition – Kim Poulsen – has said that the players should not get complacent as a result of this victory.

They will be able to achieve bigger things only if they trained harder. For Cameroon, it was the fifth successive match without a victory in all competitions. Their last victory came in the 2-1 win over Cape Verde back in October. They have also failed to qualify for the African cup of nations as well. It is an incredible fall from grace for the team that has won the most number of titles in Africa. Their last five matches have been friendlies against the likes of Columbia, Albania, Angola, and Tanzania. Apart from two draws against Albania and Indonesia, they have lost the three matches.

“They (Stars) are a good team. They showed great character, they can qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations if they maintain the tempo,” said the Cameroon manager. “They played very well against a team of Cameroon calibre, but there is a lot to do to reach the level I want. We have registered big wins recently, but we still have to work hard,” said the manager of Taifa Stars. Akono will have to prepare his team for the World Cup qualifying matches that will take place in March.
