New Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez has sensationally claimed that he will not use Cristiano Ronaldo in all of the matches, which would be against the wishes of the player.

The Portuguese superstar is someone who is extremely keen on breaking goal records and he is extremely close to doing so. Ronaldo is already the fastest player to go past the 200 goal mark for Madrid. After managing to score 48 more league goals last season, Ronaldo will be keen on going past the 50 for the campaign. Unlike in the last few years, though, it looks like Ronaldo may not be part of every game.

Benitez is widely known as a manager who likes to rotate his players in order to keep them fresh. This tactic was heavily criticised during his time at Liverpool, but he can do so quite easily at Madrid due to the strength and depth of the squad. Benitez is reportedly keen on making Gareth Bale as his most important player since the Welshman can not only acts as a force going forward, but he can also defend. Ronaldo may have scored a lot of goals in the last four years, but his team have not been winning trophies in an equal measure.

“You have a spine to a side, but also you need to rest players sometimes. What you have to do is use your players in the right way. This is the best squad I have ever coached. We will train to work with the ball 80 per cent of the time and without the ball 20%. Comparing the way I’ve coached at previous clubs is irrelevant. All of the players are great professionals, but our goal is to win with individual and collective quality; at the moment the focus is heavy on individual quality,” said Benitez.
