ONANA BENCHED FOR LAZIO GAME

index 0

Cameroon international shot stopper Andre Onana was on the bench for the entire duration of the Italian Serie A game between Inter Milan and Lazio. Onana and his Inter Milan teammates were guests of Lazio in a big game as far as Italian top flight football is concerned. Cameroon goalkeeper Onana has played second fiddle to club skipper Samir Handanovic in the Inter Milan goal since his arrival as a free agent this summer. The Cameroon international signed for the Nerazzuri after his contract with Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam ended in June.

Onana has been benched for the first three Italian Serie A games this season with manager Simone Inzaghi opting to start veteran shot stopper Handanovic ahead of him. He’s seen as the long-term replacement for retired Slovenian international shot stopper Handanovic.

Handanovic started and ended the game in the Inter Milan goal as the Nerazzuri began the new Italian Serie A season with a stoppage time win over newly promoted team Lecce. Dutchman Denzel Dumfries scored the winning goal late in the game to hand Inter Milan a slim 2-1 win at the expense of home team Lecce. Cameroon international Onana was an unused substitute for the Lecce game. Onana was also an unused substitute as Inter Milan beat Spezia 3-0 at home thanks to the goals from Lautaro Martinez, HakanCalhanoglu and substitute Joaquin Correa. Handanovic kept a clean sheet in the Inter Milan goal. The win over Spezia ensured that the Nerazzuri maintained their perfect start to the new league season.

Handanovic started ahead of Onana for the Lazio game, but he was unable to prevent Inter Milan from being beaten. The Nerazzuri were beaten 3-1 by Lazio through goals from Felipe Anderson, Luis Alberto and Pedro Rodriguez for the home team, while Lautaro Martinez got the only Inter goal.
