One of the greatest footballers from Africa, Samuel Eto’o has decided to retire from the international football after citing the huge number of problems faced by the players as a result of the inept management by the Cameroon football Federation.

The 31-year-old, who is currently playing for the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, has been voicing concerns over various affecting the players of the Cameroon international team. However, it has mostly fell to deaf ears and the former Inter Milan and Barcelona striker has finally decided to quit the game. Samuel Eto’o was recently called the for the match against Cape Verde – a friendly match that is scheduled to take place next month.

This friendly match was initially cancelled due to the strike led by Samuel Eto’o over the unpaid wages to the players. Samuel Eto’o was subsequently found guilty of being the chief architect of the strike and was banned for eight months from playing international football. Cameroon have been suffering a lot in recent years and the recently failed to qualify for the African cup of nations that took place at the Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Samuel Eto’o has been a major boost for the national team over the past decade during which time he has made more than 100 appearances for the national team.

“I regret to inform you I’ve decided not to participate in any game with the national team since the flaws I kept denouncing as captain have not been solved. The national team environment is still made up of amateurism and bad management which do not suit the requirements for high-level sport,” said a letter from the former Barcelona striker to the Cameroon Football Association President, Mohammed Iya. The Cameroon football Association has said that it will be taking action on the striker by reporting him to FIFA.
