André Onana was the Cameroon goalkeeper, especially for the 2022 World Cup. However, he has recently ended his career with the national team. He announced this in December 2022 after the World Cup ended. After the tournament, the 26-year-old footballer was sent home, assumedly after being in a dispute with Rigobert Song, the national team coach. The player posted on his social media about the incident. The player, who is associated with Inter Milan, stated that his association with the national team of Cameroon has ended.
However, he admitted that players who come and play for the national team keep changing but the country comes first, before any player or person. He did not elaborate on the reasons for his decision. He also stated that Cameroon stays eternal and so does his love for their national team. The last international game he played as part of the national team ended with a loss to Switzerland. This was part of the initial rounds of World Cup Qatar. After this game he did not play for the national team anymore, citing his disagreements with Song, especially over tactics that the team should deploy. In the following game, Cameroon ended with a draw of 3-3 when they played against Serbia.
Onana has been benched for the first three Italian Serie A games this season with manager Simone Inzaghi opting to start veteran shot stopper Handanovic ahead of him. He's seen as the long-term replacement for retired Slovenian international shot stopper Handanovic.
Onana, 26, has signed a five-year deal with the Nerazzuriuntil the end of the 2026/27 season. He's seen as the long-term successor to veteran Slovenian goalkeeper Samir Handanovicat Inter Milan. The 37-year-old Handanovic has been the first choice goalkeeper at Inter Milan for over a decade and he recently signed a one-year contract extension to take his time at the club to next summer at least.
Kenya have been thrown out of the group thus leaving three teams to battle it out in the race to qualify for the 2023 AFCON tournament on Ivorian soil. The Kenyans have not been part of the latest round of AFCON 2023 qualifiers since it started this month. Kenya and Zimbabwe were suspended by FIFA before they were thrown outof the qualifiers when the situation was not resolved.

Cameroon and Algeria were both drawn bye in the first round of the African qualifiers for Qatar 2022. In the second round, Cameroon were drawn in Group D alongside Ivory Coast, Malawi and Mozambique. Cameroon were able to finish as Group D winners with 13 points and one point ahead of Ivory Coast in second position, while Mozambique and Malawi finished in third and fourth respectively with four points and three points.
