Cameroon’s disappointing form continued

Cameroon’s disappointing form continued after their failure to land a win in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

The goalless draw with South Africa means that Cameroon have managed only two wins in the last seven games. Manager Hugo Broos had demanded improvements prior to the game. Cameroon had managed a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture with South Africa. Despite being the home team and coming in with a lot of prestige as one of the best teams in Africa, Cameroon had to come back twice in the game.

The poor start to the Africa cup of nations qualification campaign is likely to put more pressure on the manager. They remain top of the table after a 0-0 draw in the second leg against South Africa, but Mauritania are posing a lot of threat by being just one point behind in the table. Cameroon have managed two wins and two draws from the qualification campaign so far. Belgian Broos became the national team boss of Cameroon in February 2016. He has just been in charge of two games and fans are likely to give the new boss more time to make an impact. Prior to the reverse fixture against South Africa, Broos demanded improvements from his team.

“It is clear that I was not happy with the Saturday’s game. We wanted to win, but I have already said before that I didn’t understand how South Africa were last in our group. They are a very strong team. The only way to be certain of qualification is by winning all our remaining games. And we have to start with Tuesday’s match against South Africa. It will be a difficult game.We will continue to keep working hard and try to get a positive result,” said Broos prior to the draw with South Africa.
