Barcelona’s Cameroon international Alex Song says that his current club Barcelona are very much similar to Arsenal in the way they play their football.

Song was brought to the club for around £ 15 million. Even though he is a defensive midfielder, Barcelona have largely been using him as a centre back due to the style of football at the club. They prefer using defenders who are able to bring the ball out and Song perfectly fits into this style being a defensive midfielder.

The 26-year-old is expected to be one of the first names in the squad at the World Cup 2014 for Cameroon. Even though he has not made much of an impact at the Camp Nou, he says that there are a lot of similarities between Barcelona and Arsenal. As a result, it has been easy for him to make the switch between the two clubs.

There have been recent rumours that Song may return to English football with Manchester United showing interest in him. Even Arsenal have been linked with a bid to bring back their former star.

Arsenal did very poorly after the sale of Song and Robin van Persie in the same season, but it now seems that the team has managed to adjust itself to the loss. Arsenal are top of the table right now.

“Arsenal have the same style of play as Barça. There are not many differences. The main difference is the quality of players. Barça has the world’s best players, Arsenal has great players. The philosophy is the same, the style is the same. This is why it was easy for me. I had nothing to learn in particular, it is the same style of play,” said the midfielder, who was called up for the last national team squad announced by Volker Finke.
